Our rhythmic programs
Introduction to Rhythmic Gymnastics
The purpose of these classes is to introduce children to rhythmic gymnastics, and to help them to find out what this sport is all about. Class curriculum combines elements of gymnastics, dance, ballet, yoga, and serves as a foundation for basic skills development for all sports and such forms of arts as dance, ballet, and music. This program is focused on development of basic locomotor and acrobatic skills, flexibility, strength, balance, muscular and cardiovascular endurance, good posture and coordination, sense of rhythm and music. Children learn body awareness and self-esteem through gymnastic exercises.
Little Stars
5-6 year old Girls
Classes curriculum is based on needs of preschool age children. Children are introduced to basic body
positions, basic stretching techniques, and pre-acrobatic skills. They learn to understand balance and
coordination.
We use colorful balls, hoops, ropes, ribbons, and scarves to develop eye-hand coordination. We teach colors, numbers, and letters by incorporating them in classes' activities. We are learning while playing! Music is included as an integrated part in each class curriculum.
And Most Important – We Are Having a lot of FUN!
Aesthetic Group Gymnastics
The sport of Aesthetic Group Gymnastics is most similar to Rhythmic Gymnastics but has an added emphasis on fluid body movements. Also, while Rhythmic Gymnastics has an added apparatus for its routines, Aesthetic Group Gymnastics instead has anywhere between 4 and 14 gymnasts on the carpet at one time. A competition program includes elements of jumps, balances, swings, waves, dance steps, lifts, and other body movements. Evaluation of the sport is separated into three categories of Technical Value, Artistic Value, and Execution.
Beginner Classes
These classes' curriculum is based on USA Gymnastics Rhythmic levels 1 and 2 program and focused on learning fundamental body movements and apparatus techniques of rhythmic gymnastics using ball, ribbon, hoop, and rope. Children are practicing 2 to 4 hours a week, participate in level/skill tests 2 times a year, and have an opportunity to perform in San Diego Rhythms Winter and Summer Recitals. These classes don't require any previous rhythmic gymnastics experience.
Rhythmic Xcel is designed to provide a competitive outlet for gymnasts just beginning in the sport, gymnasts who want to participate in a wide variety of extracurricular activities, gymnasts who desire to compete without the extensive time and financial commitments generally associated with the sport, and anyone who wants the opportunity to participate in a safe, fun sport that builds self esteem and physical fitness.
Children are practicing 4 to 6 hours a week regardless of level and have an opportunity to participate in competitions where their performances are evaluated by judges who are providing feed back focused on personal progress rather than competitive placement .
Try Outs are held in May and June of each year.
